Taupo, sits at the North-east corner of the spectacular Lake Taupo, the largest lake in the whole of Australasia. This small urban area, in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island, like Rotorua, is famous for its geothermal activity.

Places of interest include the Wairakei International Golf Course (to the North of Taupo), where underground steam is used to generate electricity, and the beautiful Huka Falls, on the Waikato River- the longest river in New Zealand.

The Tongariro National Park is also worth a visit. Attractions at the park include - Ruapehu, Tongariro & Ngauruhoe, three of New Zealand’s active volcanic mountains, a beautiful rain forest and outdoor activities including mountain-biking, horse-trekking, rafting, hunting and game-fishing.
